In our first Naming Word Cup of the year we had a Frankel-esque performance and one of our most dominant winners ever in the history of the syndicate. It’s easy to see why. Often times people never give a reason for their chosen name or they don’t put a whole lot of effort / creativity into choosing the name but this group in particular were an exception as there was a list of superb names given which ultimately boiled down to a very deserved winner.
Jack Carey successfully chose the winning name (90% to 10%), Annthropology stating “The study of man is anthropology. Since she is a filly, Annthropology.” I thought it was very well researched and thought out with a clever little spin on it so well done and thank you Jack for your excellent name suggestion. An honourable mention to our runner up Ben Jordan who picked the name Strong Motivator which I also thought was a good name given the filly’s dam is called Strong And Stable who is by Motivator.
Study Of Man is one of the most exciting young sires around with a high rate of stakes winners to runners headed by the Group 1 winning filly Kalpana. That aforementioned filly had her very first start on this day last year and eight runs later she was a Listed, Group 3 and Group 1 winning filly who marked herself out as a force to be reckoned with for the season ahead.
Annthropology was never bred to be a 2yo as she’s by a French Derby winner out of a mare whose sire, Motivator, won the Epsom Derby in 2005. Middle distances will very much be her forte and we’ve given her all of the time in the world to fully develop, strengthen and grow so we’re excited about the coming months. She’s trained by one of the most exciting young trainers in the UK, Ollie Sangster, who has already proved a dab hand with fillies having handled two Group 1 calibre fillies in his first two seasons with a license.
Kara progresses
Kara de Thaix got her jumping career off to a goos start when she was a staying on 3rd over 2m4f in Fairyhouse on Thursday. She ran keen and green and with natural improvement she will hopefully be visiting the winners enclosure in the not so distant future. She’s a fine big, scopey mare who will hopefully keep improving throughout her career.
We were a little bit disappointed with Esque Ellegance’s tame effort in Dundalk on Tuesday but we keep the faith. There were a couple of little things which went against her which we can hopefully iron out on her next start and get that winning bracket.
Zaakara in the maternity ward
Our breeding syndicate members are getting very excited about the impending arrival of the first foal out of Zaaki’s half sister, Zaakara. She headed into the maternity wing of the Irish National Stud and is set to become a mother for the first time carrying to State Of Rest.
Boutte Baby
Bouttemont became a dad for the first time during the week as Rival Queen gave birth to a cracking colt foal. The mare is a Galileo half sister to Invincible Spirit and Kodiac and was bred by Joseph O’Brien. if he keeps throwing them like this we’ll be very happy!
