Cape Byron became our second dual winner of 2024 when he won in good style at Newcastle on Tuesday under Louise Day for Ciaron Maher. He backed up his Jan 6th Wyong victory in the mark of a horse firmly on the improve.

He went off the $5.50 second favourite and showed a good late burst to finish off his race in nice style. To be fair to Ciaron he knew from early doors that this horse had some ability and told us “that if you let me geld him I will win the first 2 starts with him when he comes back and you could sell him to Hong Kong”. There had been enquiries made after his last start and one would think they will ramp up now after Tuesday’s victory. He looks like he has plenty more to give but after owners received a good dividend from the sale of Capitalisation to Hong Kong Cape Byron could well follow suit.

The Aussie group received an exciting update on stable star Run Harry Run late on Thursday evening. He came out of his second jump out in serious order as he prepares for his first up run in the C.S Hayes Stakes at Flemington on the 17th of February. He looks set for an exciting Autumn Carnival.
Disappointment after DRF defeat
Sharp Object owners and fans were down but not out after another tame effort on Sunday. Thankfully a minor issue looks to have come to light and we’ll expect her to bounce back better than ever. It didn’t dampen spirits too much as we had a huge group enjoying the spectacle that has become the Dublin Racing Festival.
Sharp Object’s owners get the pre-race brief.
The big takeaway from the race was the form lines. She Is Diesel finished 2nd only beaten 2.5L’s. We pumillied that rival by 4.5L’s on debut whilst Aurora Vega finished a close 4th who we only had 3L’s to make up on from our Gowran effort so we can take great confidence from that. Broken but unbowed, we’ll be back.
Bouttemont at it again
Rathbarry new boy, Bouttemont, had been prolific at the December sales and he was back at it in Goffs during the week adding a further quality to his book. Zunera joined the squad at a cost of €10,000 which I thought was unbelievable value. She was a winner at two herself who has already produced the smart Zarzyni a 2yo winning, multiple Group placed sprinter. Furthermore she has a Blue Point 2yo in training with Johnny Murtagh still to come.
Jack was on hand to assist Gary purchase his first ever broodmare and they looked to have landed a “Bouttemont Bargain”. Gary had a limited budget but they managed to purchase a proven producer in foal to Dandy Man for just €3,500.
It was nice to help Gavin buy his first mare today @Goffs1866
€5k budget, we managed to nab Lady Correspondent – a Newmarket maiden winner as a two year old, dam of a 92 rated horse in foal in foal to Dandy Man for €3,500

That is 18 mares in total purchased specifically to suit Bouttemont in his first season at stud. Couple that with home support, breeding right holders and outside noms he looks well set to cover an exciting first book of mares that will have the quality and quantity to give him the ideal start at stud.
Johnny Murtagh Open Morning
We’re heading to Johnny’s this Saturday to take a look at what I think is one of the most exciting horses we have ever bought. Our owners seem to think the same as our Ravens Pass filly has been one of our most popular new recruits.
Ravens Pass ex. Seschat filly at Goffs
The plan is simple. Win her maiden first time out and head straight for the Goffs Million. An ambitious plan by her trainer but it’ll tell you just how high a regard he holds her in. Furthermore she is also in contention for the lucrative Goffs Two Million Series where if she can win her maiden she will scoop an extra €50,000 in prize money. Click the button below to come see her this Saturday.
She won’t be the only star on show as the admirable Coulstar also takes up residence in Fox Covert. We’re hoping she can get the job done this Friday off a mark of 68 which would lead nicely into Saturdays open morning. I might struggle to get some of the owners back down the road after the race!
We will confirm a time later in the week but please click here to register your attendance.
Thank you.
