The Sunday Syndicates Post – Vol. 4, Issue 2

QUEEN OF ATLANTIS continued a fine start to our 2024 season making it 2/2 so far and 3/3 on our last three runners. She put in a hugely game effort and was ridden by the ice cold Callum Hutchinson who had to thread a path through the field and drop the game filly on the line to foil the party of the well backed favorite at Southwell on Thursday afternoon.

Ben Atkinson and Brian Stacey celebrate victory in the Southwell Winners Enclosure.

It was the fillys second win on the trot after a similarly game effort on December 22nd. It was another big step forward in taking the Class 3 Handicap as she took the scalp of the 79 rated Sunny Street. Even more impressive was that she was the only filly in the whole field. She looked value for a bit more at the line as she began to get outpaced halfway from home, similar to her previous effort. The afterburners kicked in when she got in the clear and she took off to take victory on the line suggesting that a step up in trip is well within reach and could lead to even further improvement going forward.

Credit must go to Derby winning trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam who seems to have found the key to Queen Of Atlantis and has campaigned her very well to date. She had a far easier option on Wednesday evening in Kempton but the handler backed the filly to take the more competitive race and a bigger pot a day later. Going forward she could be a candidate for Royal Ascot but eminently the very lucrative All Championships at Easter which has a whopping £1,000,000 across 6 races could be a nice place to take aim at.

Joseph O’Brien Open Day

We are inviting all of our owners to join us this Saturday Jan 20th on the famous Hill of Carriganóg Racing to see our two exciting fillies being put through their paces. Our newly named Spin Lizzy is not far off a debut and could hit the track before the month is out. Being by Gleneagles out of the Group 1 winning mare Spinning Queen she was expertly named by Mark Bearpark during the week. The second is State Of Joy, our Starspangledbanner filly purchased at Book 2 last year.

Joseph has constructed a brand new state of the art owners facility at his Carriganóg base of which we will be the first to use. Signup is essential so please ensure to do so here. He has had some famous horses through his hands and it is a spectacular facility so well worth coming along for the morning out.

Stallion Trail Success

Our three stallions were exceptionally well received over the course of the ITM Stallion Trail which was another resounding success this year and has quickly become a staple part of the racing & breeding calendar.

Far Above’s first foals have just turned two and we’re receiving some rave reviews already from the top handlers. They are displaying bombproof attitudes, are good moving horses and look to have speed and precocity in spades. We have two heading into training which are receiving equally positive reviews. He will stand his fourth season at Starfield Stud for €5,000.

My Far Above has a super temperament and super movement.
— Eddie Linehan, Lackendarra Stables

Fifty Stars was on show at Sunnyhill Stud and that walk is still bowling people over. He has really let down and filled out now and is looking stunning. He seems to have passed on that walk and good looks to his first crop of foals which were very well received at the sales in 2023. He will stand his third season at Sunnyhill Stud for €3,000 with concessions for fillies.

New boy Bouttemont went down a storm to Irish breeders who were seeing him for the first time. All we heard all weekend was how scarily similar he is to his father and stablemate Acclamation. If he can be half as good to breeders as his own sire was, we’re in for a hell of a ride. He will stand his first season at Rathbarry Stud for €5,000.

Please do get in touch if you would like to use any of the above stallions. We’d be delighted to assist you with your mating plans.

Can Coulstar keep the good start going?

The once raced Coulstar has been set a large task to keep our good start to the New Year going at Dundalk on Tuesday evening. She was declared in the winners of one at 5:10pm with Shane Kelly in the plate for Johnny Murtagh. The 91 rated winning Tarsus heads the field alongside 10 others with some nice pieces of form and expensive yearling purchases. Coulstar is our 3rd member of our #BargainBreezer23 squad alongside Orderofthephoenix and the aforementioned Queen Of Atlantis. She acquitted herself well on her sole start as a 2yo before an injury kept her off the track until now. Best of luck to all her owners on Tuesday.

Syndicates Horse Of The Week

Given the reports we’re receiving on the progeny of Far Above it would be remiss of me not to highlight one of his sons that we have heading into training this year and one that could be our first 2yo runner of the year.

Far Above ex. Cindy Bear colt purchased at Goffs.

Our Far Above colt out of the Kodiac mare Cindy Bear is bred to be precocious, fast and strong and he certainly has the physical to match. He’s a fine big strapping colt who takes the mold of a bodybuilder. He has a huge square, powerful hind end where the engine is. He’s got a good strong shoulder, a big deep girth and very much takes the same shape as his very talented father.

Throw Alice Haynes into the mix and you get a mouthwatering combination. Alice has quickly become one of the best trainers in the UK and she has a real knack with sharp, early 2yos so we cannot wait to get this fella across the water and into the care of Alice. He is being broken and pre-trained by Rodrigo Goncalves and had his first spin through the stalls today which he took with consummate ease. Rodge described him as a “fine big strong colt who will be out early.” In the last couple of years Rodge has had G2 winner Brave Emperor and the Listed winning, G3P, 2024 1000 Guineas contender Kitty Rose through his hands so he knows a good one when he sees one. Fingers crossed this guy can go on to emulate some of Rodrigo’s top graduates.

If you’d like to get involved in this strapping colt click the button below. There are a very limited number of shares left up for grabs so don’t miss out on your best chance to don the top hat and tails in 2024!

Thank you.
