One of the most fulfilling parts of the job is watching our stars of yesteryear progress to their second careers of hopefully producing stars of the future. Mise le Meas was one of the most regally bred fillies we ever offered for syndication back in 2020 being by the French Derby winner New Bay and a half sister to Group 1 winner Nahoodh. She duly obliged and became one of our best flat fillies with Johnny Murtagh.
Mise le Meas and Ben Coen strides clear to break her maiden on just her second start as a 2yo.
Mise le Meas finished 3rd on debut behind two future G1 winners up the Curragh before breaking her maiden in impressive fashion on her second start in Gowran Park. She was then sent off 4/1 co-fav for the G2 Debutante stakes where an off day saw her finish 5th. She picked up blacktype on her final start as a 2yo in the listed Blenheim Stakes before her winter break. She looked to come back just as good as a 3yo to be just denied on her seasonal bow back in Gowran before running a gallant 4th in the G3 Athasi. She, along with Golden Mayflower, became our first Royal Ascot runners in 2022 before an unfruitful US campaign.
Myself and American PharOAH IN ASHFORD STUD KENTUCKY
Tinnakill were able to buy out partners at a cost of $130,000 at the Keeneland January sale last year before landing on the Triple Crown winning, Group 1 producing legend that is American Pharoah for her first mate. AP suited her perfectly as a physical being a strong, robust, excellent moving son of Pioneerofthenile. He was a Grade 1 winner at 2 and a Triple Crown winning, Breeders Cup Champion at 3. Furthermore five of his eight Group / Grade 1 winners have won at the top level on turf in America, Australia and France making him a truly international sire. He has also been represented with some top-class European turf performers such as Nicest, Thinking Of You, Willow and Pista.
Mise gave birth to a belting filly (cover) on Thursday at the Irish National Stud in the exact same stable as Sea The Stars was born. 50% of American Pharoah’s top 20 highest rated progeny are all fillies headed by the Group 1 winner, Above The Curve. The resultant progeny will be highly sought after from a multitude of nations with international appeal coming from both the sire and the dam. Personally, I’d love to see her race in the white , black and red but something tells me I’m dreaming!

2024 Naming Word Cups complete
If ever there was a hurry-on to get a colt named it was Wednesday’s barrier trail in Chelmsford where our Far Above ex. Cindy Bear bolted up by 2L’s under Kieran O’Neill in taking fashion confirming our the murmurs that had been coming from his pre-training and training camps. All going well he will head back to Chelmsford at the end of this month to make his debut in a £40,000 maiden. We ran one of our tightest ever Naming Word Cups during the week where Far Above The Law piped Far Maximus to the post in a thrilling competition. Congratulations to Steve Errett who successfully picked the name with commiserations to Nicola Thompson and the kids who were gallant runners up. He is now completely sold out so the very best of luck to his owners for an exciting season ahead.
Trainer Tim Donworth had me under immense pressure for the last month to get the Far Above ex. Sopran Verne colt named such was his precocity. This competition wasn’t as tight with the name Far Beyond winning out in a 70.58% vs. 29.41% for Above Rapproach. Congratulations to the winner Michael Lane and much thanks to our runner up Daragh Ó’Conchúir. There are a small number of shares left in this lad and he is set to run in April with some big money French pots awaiting.
All eyes on…. Dundalk?
Cheltenham will take centre stage this week for many but there will be a view diehards who will be more focussed on the 7f 0-70 3yo only handicap in Dundalk on Friday instead of a Gold Cup for the ages across the pond! Coulstar has taken up plenty of paragraph space in the weeks gone past and we hope that she might start grabbing a few headlines in the weeks to come. She’s been an admirable, fun filly for her owners over the dark dreary months of the winter and we hope that a step up in trip on Friday will be exactly what she wants to get a well deserved winning bracket beside her name.
Foal Watch
The foaling season is well under way and there have been some cracking foals born over the coming months. We thought you’d enjoy the gallery of a selection to date. We’ll keep adding to it as the season goes along.
Byron out of luck on hat trick bid
Cape Byron was looking to become our second hat trick hero of the year at Warwick Farm on Wednesday for Ciaron Maher. He had been dual entered during the week with wide draws plaguing him on both acceptances and which ultimately lead to his defeat.
Cape Byron and Nash Rawiller in full flow down under.
Legendary jockey, Nash Rawiller, elected to send Cape Byron forward after not being happy with his track position and the race pace. He looked to have taken the race by the scruff of the neck only to be just run down late in the dying strides of the race. He’s still very much a progressive horse on the up and one would expect we won’t have to wait too much longer for that 3rd W beside his name.
Thank you.
Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoy the week ahead and back plenty of winners. If there is anything we can do for you please get in touch john@syndicates.racing.
