We kicked off the new year exactly how we left the last one with a winner on our first runner of 2024. Cape Byron kept up the remarkable run of our Australian Colts Syndicate at Wyong for Ciaran Maher with a mightily impressive victory under Irish jockey Darragh Keenan.
Starting ‘24 as we left ‘23 with a winner on our first runner of the year💪🏽
Congrats to our Australian colts syndicate who registered yet another winner down under in the early hours of this morning courtesy of Cape Byron wide down the outside under Darragh Keenan 🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/2k4Wt2Ohmf

Cape Byron swung very wide around the home bend covering far more ground than his opposition and got up to win on the line a tad cosily. It was the 3yo geldings 3rd start however that does not tell the full tale. He was the most precocious of the group last Spring (Autumn for the aussies) and was taking aim at the lucrative sales race in Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day. He even galloped on the track leading upto the race but had to be scratched the morning of due to sore shins. Patience was required and the son of Capitalist finally lived up to his potential in the wee hours of Saturday morning. He received rave reviews from his young jockey stating “he was very impressive today, I think he’s alright this horse.” Hopefully he can go onto emulate the exploits of Run Harry Run and Capitalisation for our Australian division.

“He was very impressive today.”
On that note the Australian yearling sales are getting into full swing and the Magic Millions Carnival is hitting top gear. We have had a lot of people expressing an interest in getting involved in another colts syndicate so if you would like to get involved please do let us know by filling out the form here.
Syndicates army set to descend on Naas racecourse.
What better way to kick off the new year by hosting 100, yes 100, Syndicates.Racing owners at Naas racecourse for their big Grade 1 day. The race itself has not disappointed with some highly exciting novice hurdlers declared who all hail from trainers which we have horses with. Gordon has the 2/1 favorite in the shape of Firefox but he will have to fend off the challenge of five Willie Mullins contenders including Ile Atlantique and the first foal out of Annie Power, Mystical Power. Henry de Bromheads An Tobar completes the line-up.
We are reminding everyone that we are meeting up in the main grandstand bar for a community drink after the second race of the day. It was a great day last year when we had 70 owners in attendance so tomorrow promises to be even better. We couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off 2024.

Ellen Kelly on the road to Closutton
Our Westerner 5yo Ellen Kelly is on the waiting list to get back into Willie Mullins this week coming. She had one spell down there already only for a small setback to curtail her progress. She has come through her latest spell of pre-training with Sonny Carey and looks in fantastic condition.
Brilliant to call in to see our Westerner filly Ellen Kelly with Sonny Carey. She’s about to head back to big school with Willie Mullins for her lucky owners pic.twitter.com/GYFYlMAq6g

Jack called into Sonny’s during the week to check in on the filly before she departs. All going well she could debut in the Springtime and she certainly has the physique of a filly who is ready made for a bumper.
Inaugural Naming Word Cup ‘24
The first of our Naming Word Cup’s of 2024 is set to be decided on Sunday evening when our Gleneagles 3yo out of the Group 1 winner Spinning Queen is set to be named by her owners. She is being aimed at a maiden in Dundalk this month and as she gets ever closer to a debut the pressure was on to get her named.
Gleneagles ex. Spinning Queen filly in Joseph O’Briens.
We had a huge response from her own owners but also from the Twitter masses with over 34,000 interactions and hundreds of name suggestions. There are a small number of shares left in the filly for anyone that is looking for some automatic, early action in 2024.
ThoroughBid’s Auction for Aid for a reason
Racings online auction house Thoroughbid have over 100 highly exciting lots on auction for charity including stable tours to Willie Mullins, Joseph O’Brien, Jessie Harrington’s, Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls and many more as well as nominations to our own boys Far Above and Fifty Stars. There are a whole host of lots on offer so take a look here and remember 100% of the auction proceeds go to charity with over £30,000 already raised. The auction ends on Sunday evening.
Queen gets dual entry
Our final winner of 2023 has been given two entries for the coming week. Queen Of Atlantis is entered in Kempton on Wednesday and Southwell on Thursday. We will asses each race and weigh up the pros and cons of each to give her and her owners the best chance of racking up two wins on the bounce. She certainly won like a filly with a lot more to give so fingers crossed for a good week ahead.
Thank you.
Thank you for reading. Never did I think when I came up with the concept of the SSP that I’d have written four volumes and 96 Issues three years on! It has developed from a weekly update on each horse to a weekly round-up of all things Syndicates.Racing. I thoroughly enjoy doing it and love to hear your feedback on how to make it even better so if there is anything that you would like to see more or less of please do let me know john@syndicates.racing.
