The Sunday Syndicates Post – Vol. 3, Issue 29

SHARP OBJECT was mightily impressive in Ballinrobe on Friday evening under talented young amateur Alex Harvey. She got our partnership with John McConnell off to the perfect start with an authoritative four and a half length victory over her seven rivals. She was green throughout but there was no question of what was under the bonnet when Alex went for home she duly quickened away and put the race to bed in a couple of strides.

Sharp Object marked another first for us also as she was our first purchase from the point-to-point field when sourced from Patrick Turley’s Kingsfield Stables for £42,000 at the Goffs UK May sale. Ironically enough we actually underbid the filly on the day, losing out only to her trainer, but we were adamant that she was the right fit and we’ve wanted a horse with John for a while so it all came together quite nicely with yesterday being the cherry on the top of the cake.

Remarkably our record of having a bumper winner on racecourse debut has been upheld with a four from four 100% strike rate fully intact. It’s a record we take pride in but are fully aware that it can’t last forever but there’s definitely no arguing with the quality of stock we have coming through. Pre-race we had spoken about heading to the 2m Listed Mucklemeg Mares Flat Race in Gowran Park given that all went to plan in Ballinrobe and that is very much the plan. One suspects we’ll have quite the crew descending on the Co. Kilkenny track on Friday week.

Diamond Boy ex. Kilbarry Medoc filly sourced at the Goffs Defender Sale.

Kilbarry Lodge Stud are some of the finest breeders on the land and they are renowned for backing their own stallions. After the exploits of the top quality Impare Et Passe, L’Homme Presse and Grand Sancy to name but a few, Diamond Boy looks set to start a meteoric rise to the top of the sire tables in the years to come. Having listened to Patrick Turley speak so highly about the engine that Sharp Object has and Patrick Mullins reaming about how talented Impare Et Passe is we were over the moon to secure another one by the sire from one of the best national hunt families in the book from the farm that stands the stallion! If you don’t believe us listen to Paddy who suggested she was his “pick of the bunch”(original post).

Sales circus hits top gear

The yearling sales are well and truely underway and whilst we havent struck just yet we begin to come into our own with these later sales. Tattersalls Ireland gets underway this week in Fairyhouse and I’ll be on site from Sunday morning right the way through the week in an attempt to source the next Syndicates.Racing star. There’s a good catalogue in place and we’ve had success from the sale previously through Freedom Falls excellent freshman season which was backed up by a maiden victory this year. If you’d like to come along and drop in for a coffee please do get in touch. Far Above is represented by a ten strong draft throughout the week and having sold so well to date we’ll eagerly await to see what top judges add their names to the scoresheet.

Fairyhouse roles straight into the Goffs Orby sale and Tinnakill House are set to offer one of the most exciting yearings to have come to market in the past number of years. Lot 48 is a Sea The Stars half sister to the four time global Group 1 winning machine State Of Rest who is currently undertaking his first Southern Hemisphere covering duties in Newgate Farm. Make sure and take a look at the video above (original post) if you haven’t already seen it as Dermot Cantillon gives an overview of his prized possession who has defined a lifetime’s work.

Phoenix ready to soar

Orderofthephoenix looks set to make her racecourse debut in Listowel on Tuesday after coming through her final piece of work under Ronan Whelan at the Curragh during the week. Her sire, Phoenix Of Spain, has made a remarkable start to his stallion career operating at a near 50% strike rate to date.

Orderofthephoenix at the Gorsebridge breeze-up sale.

The stars may well and truly be aligning for the attractive 2yo as her year older sister, Star Galaxy, broke her maiden on just her fourth attempt when winning off a mark of 81 on handicap debut in Punchestown on Tuesday.

Thank you.
