Episode 2 in this series of The Art Of The Mating went live to subscribers on Thursday evening. Jack sat down with Cathal Mariga of Coolmara Stud to discuss their mare Maskada who was an £80,000 ThoroughBid March ‘22 sale purchase. Since joining Henry de Bromhead she has improved 20lbs and provided the Mariga family with their first Cheltenham Festival winner. Cathal also gives us an update on Grangee who he purchased from us in Goffs for €120,000.

Ellen Kelly SOLD OUT
After West End Victory’s recent heroics on debut the demand for her paternal half sister shot through the roof. Combine that with our 100% strike record in bumpers first time out, a Cheltenham bonanza from Willie Mullins and Ellen’s half brother winning his point by 15 lengths last Sunday it was somewhat of a perfect storm which lead to a big run on shares in the attractive daughter of Westerner.
There are still a very small number of shares left in our Masked Marvel filly who was in Navan racecourse during the week completing a racecourse gallop. The Walk In The Park filly is pleasing Ross O’Sullivan and is set to head to the Curragh next week for a serious piece of work but it looks like she’ll be hitting the track in late Spring / early Summer. Our Milan filly joined Peter Fahey during the week and she looks set to be the next horse to be sold out. As a half sister to Road To Respect she has everyone very excited.
#TheFlatIsBack
We were very excited to see the return of the flat this weekend at the Curragh and Naas. Freedom Falls was set to line out in the first in Naas but she is unfortunately in season meaning she had to be withdrawn. It won’t be too much longer before we see her on the track and she will be swiftly followed by Fast Tara who is building quite nicely towards her seasonal debut.
With the return of the flat we can start dreaming of what our crop of 2-y-o’s may be able to achieve on the track. I had to take a second look at our Gleneagles filly when she departed for Joseph O’Brien’s Owning Hill during the week as she turned inside out during her time with the Byrne family of Knockgraffan. We had big success with Gleneagles courtesy of Queen Maedbh and we’re hoping this lady can follow suit.
Our New Bay filly with Kevin Phillpart de Foy look like she could be our first 2yo runner and is described by her trainer as a filly that “will be ready to run in the first 6f maidens and will be winning races.”
Amy Murphy won the first 2yo race of the year in France during the week continuing on her massive success from last year. We’re excited to see what she can unearth in our Zoustar filly who is set to step up her work in April.
2023 Naming Word Cup results are in
To celebrate the arrival of our Milan filly to Peter Fahey’s we said we’d get her named. Congratulations to John Tomlinson who successfully chose the name Milan Dollar Lady for our Milan filly out of Lora Lady. A clever play on the sire and dams name with reference the the award winning film “Millon Dollar Baby”.
As our New Bay filly looks to be fast approaching her debut we kicked off her Naming Word Cup during the week also. Tyler McEwen was the winner when naming the filly Bay Breeze stating “A play on between a gentle breeze on the bay and our New Bay filly breezing past her rivals.”
Thank you.
