The Sunday Syndicates Post – Vol. 3, Issue 1

We’re back and we’re back with a bang.We wanted to kick off 2023 in style and what better way to do so than welcome over 75 owners to Naas racecourse for the Grade 1 Lawlors Of Naas Novice Hurdle. Naas is one of the premier tracks in the country and are always extremely accommodating towards us and our owners so we’re excited for a big day ahead.

We’ll be paying special attention to the last race, the Fifty Stars Standing at Sunnyhill Stud bumper, to see if there’ll be a future star identified. We’re looking forward to welcoming the first foals of the Group 1 winning son of Sea The Stars this year. He covered a stellar first book including our star mare Cabaret Queen, the breeding syndicates Grade 2 winner Lady Breffni, the dam of Wicklow Brave and many more top-class mares.

“I’m a firm believer of Sea The Stars being the next sire of National Hunt sires.”

Fifty Stars was an exceptional racehorse racking up a strike rate of 30% over a 30 race career beating the likes of Mirage Dancer, Vow And Declare, Southern France etc. Michael Hickey of Sunnyhill Stud stated “I’m a firm believer of Sea The Stars being the next sire of National Hunt sires. Affinsea is already getting winners on the track and Cloth Of Stars is producing exceptional horses in France.”

4-y-o’s on the march

Masked marvel ex. cervaro filly leaving ard érin stud for gavin cromwell’s this week

It was a busy week for the next generation of our national hunt division as our newly turned 4-y-o’s started departing for their new homes. We couldn’t be more excited for Gavin to get stuck into our Masked Marvel filly. He was a sire that we took a bit of a punt on and how that looks to be paying off now. Since her purchase in July the sire has come up with Grade 1 winning hurdler Teahupoo, Grade 2 Winner Maskada and the very exciting debutant Quais De Paris.

The pedigree has also been bolstered further as Lifetime Ambition has improved another 10lbs since last years excellent Novice campaign. He added a second Grade 1 placing beside his name and looks firmly on track for this years Aintree Grand National.

the last black national hunt filly we had in training wasn’t half bad!

“She’d definitely rank in the top half of our 4-y-o’s based on her physical, she’s really thrived since the sales.”

She came through her pre-training with flying colours and was described by the Brickley’s as a filly “with a real get up and go attitude, loves her work and should give her owners plenty of fun on the racetrack.” Alan Hannigan, racing manager to Gavin, said “she’d definitely rank in the top half of our 4-y-o’s based on her physical, she’s really thrived since the sales.”

One sire we certainly didn’t take a punt on was Walk In The Park. It looks like he’s quickly becoming the pre-eminent source of top-class national hunt horses through the exploits of Facile Vega, Jonbon among many others. We’re hugely excited to be able to offer our owners a chance to get involved in such a well bred filly going to an exciting young trainer.

Ross was very excited to be getting his hands on the filly as she looks like one who could be out early in 2023. She also completed her breaking and pre-training at Ard Érin Stud and was very straightforward throughout the prep. She got on with the job at hand and thrived throughout the process. We’re looking forward to seeing what this filly could achieve for us on the track this year.

3 to follow

Last week we launched the Syndicates.Racing 3 to follow competition for the up-coming year. It’s the first time that we have done one so we’re hoping it will be a bit of craic, spark a bit of interest and enlighten a bit of friendly competition amongst owners.

The competition will start next Sunday the 15th of January and will finish on the last day of the flat turf season. We’ll have weekly updates in the SSP on leaderboards and give you some sneak peaks along the way on certain horses who we think could accumulate points for your team. The prizes are as follows:

  1. €500 Syndicates.Racing Voucher

  2. €100 Syndicates.Racing Voucher

  3. €50 Syndicates.Racing Voucher

The rules are simple. You accumulate one point for every euro of prizemoney won by your horses. You MUST have at least one horse from either our flat or national hunt squads (i.e. two flat and one NH or vice versa). You will be allowed one substitution at the end of the Punchestown Festival or in the event of an injury. Head over to the website to view our horses in training for the upcoming season then click here to pick your 2023 squad.

Get them gainz

Our older brigade of flat fillies have all filtered their way back into training over the winter break and it looks like they didn’t slack on the mince pies over the holidays! Its always one of the most interesting/exciting times of the year to take a look at these flat fillies and wonder just how much improvement there may be from year to year.

One of the big things that we love to look at is weight gain. On average the thoroughbred will gain 20kg from their 2-y-o career to their 3-y-o career. Snowhaven only had the one run last year but was always identified as a filly to look forward to this year given she is by Le Havre from a top family. She gained a whopping 25kg from last year illustrating that she hopefully has improved and will be a different model this year.

Fast Tara got the blood boiling in two starts last year and again is a filly who has always looked like this will be her year. She acquitted herself well and showed a sparkling of star quality in both runs. She had her break in Tinnakill and Johnny couldn’t believe how well she had done when he got her back into training. She gained an impressive 27kg.

Freedom falls on the weighing scales at kilarkin stud

Last but certainly not least was our most fun juvenile on the flat last year, the 81 rated Freedom Falls. She racked up some seriously impressive form lines last year and was a good money spinner for her owners. We always just felt she was still a bit weak and were hoping that an extended winter break would do the trick. It looks to have done just that as she gained a massive 31kg and came back in with the hind end of a Belgian Blue! Immediate plans for her will be to try to win her maiden first up before taking aim at stakes and premier handicap company.

Next Gen

Our exciting bunch of flat fillies are gearing up for the 2023 season. I went down to see the Gleneagles filly out of Brown Bee on Monday who is destined for Joseph O’Brien. She’s broken and riding away, enjoying her work and loves her grub. She was bought as a 7f-1m mid-summer auction maiden filly and that’s exactly what she is shaping up to be.

Amy Murphy has our Zoustar filly who was broken and ridden off before Christmas and was let off for a little holiday. She was our most popular horse on the lead-up to Christmas and for good measure as she represents fantastic value on the proven £20k GBB winning combo of Amy Murphy and Syndicates.Racing. There will have been a lot of members dreaming of top hats and tails over the Christmas holidays.

“Fast Eddie” of Lackendara Stables provided us with this hugely exciting update on our New Bay filly during the week (view original post for video). New Bay is one of our favourite and luckiest sires through the exploits of Mise le Meas and New Emerald Bay. To have a filly out of a stakes winning mare cantering this well upsides at this point of her career is what we love to see. She will depart for Kevin Phillpart de Foy in the next week or so and she looks like one who could get us on the board early in the new year.

Keeneland Wild Card

Mise le Meas is a highly exciting wild card addition to the Keeneland January sale this week. She was a real star for us on the track racking up a seriously impressive 2yo CV before going on to run at Royal Ascot as a 3yo.

Mise le meas goes under the hammer stateside this week

As you can see above the pedigree reads extremely well and she would be a prize possession of any stud farms broodmare band.

Virtual Race Night in aid of MS Ireland

A virtual race night will take place in The Reg Waterford on Jan 28th to help raise funds for James Bishop, a young 38yo man who is fundraising for life altering treatment abroad. We’re delighted to be sponsoring a prize on the night. If you would like to get involved in any way please get in touch. The event co-ordinator Paul Atkins (087 2708561) is available to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you.

We’re delighted to be back with volume 3 of the SSP in 2023. Its hard to believe that its now been on the go for three years! We strive to get better year in year out and always value your feedback. If there is anything at all that we can do for you please do get in touch john@syndicates.racing.
