The Sunday Syndicates Post – Vol. 2, Issue 32

Whilst she’s not donning the white, black and red of Syndicates.Racing anymore we were still delighted to see Queen Maedbh break her maiden in impressive fashion on Wednesday evening at Dundalk for Joseph O’Brien, Mikey Sheehy and the H O S Syndicate.

The daughter of Gleneagles was our sole Bargain Breezer purchase in 2023 and she presented a huge ROI for her owners after her excellent debut second in Leopardstown during the summer. Winning assistant trainer Brendan Powell was quoted after the race “She could be exciting. At home she would be very relaxed and is hard to gauge what she is but, without a doubt, she definitely showed a lot more speed on the track than she does at home.” She’s bred to get 1m and has an Irish 1000 Guineas entry for next year so it will be interesting to see which route connections take with her.

Road to the racetrack

Our Milan half sister to Road To Respect has commenced her 3-4wk break as of the weekend. I couldn’t believe how good a nick she was in and how much she has grown and progressed since the sales. Micháel Conaghan broke and pre-trained her for us and did a wonderful job. He remarked on her very likeable attitude and a savage ability to jump. She’ll take time to wind back down at home here with me before we look to get her into Peter Fahey’s yard before Christmas with one eye firmly se on the prestigious Land Rover Bumper at the Punchestown Festival.

We received an exciting update (view original post for video) during the week on another 3yo national hunt filly called Ellen Kelly. There was an essence of Grangee about her with that gorgeous deep, dark bay colour. She is progressing really nicely and is super to jump.

Cabaret King and West End Victory also appeared in updates this week with this being their first from Closutton. The King settled in great and is reported to look fantastic by Patrick Mullins (view original post fo video.)

West End Victory is taking a little bit longer to get used to her surroundings but looks a picture. It can be quite a shock to the system on young horses moving from a stable of 30 horses to the behemoth that is WPM Racing.

First foal for Listen Dear to go under the hammer

Listen Dear’s first foal, a filly by Jukebox Jury, will go under the hammer as lot 1096 at Tattersalls on Wednesday. The mating was chosen by her former Syndicates.Racing owners before she sold to Leonard McMahon at last years December mare sales for €60k. We wish her new connections the very best of luck and we’ll be following her progeny with great interest.

BC Bonanza

The Breeders Cup is always a highlight of the racing calendar every year and this years renewal certainly didn’t disappoint. Flightline is one of the greatest horses of the modern era and it was spine tingling to watch him breeze past Life Is Good and win the Classic by 7 lengths. The story of Cody’s Wish would bring a tear to any mans eye and provided a heartwarming feel to the day when winning the Dirt Mile. Syndicates.Racing trainer Amy Murphy had a super run with her filly Manhattan Jungle who just didn’t see out the mile. William Buick and Ryan Moore we’re in scintillating form and provided Charlie Appleby and Aidan O’Brien with an unforgettable meet. Irish horses were to the fore throughout the weekend and Tuesday capped of a remarkable season when winning the Fillies & Mares. Only last year our very own Mise le Meas wasn’t far behind the aforementioned Tuesday on debut with another Group 1 winner ahead of her really dispalying the strength in depth of Irish maidens.

Foal Sales ready

Foals will start to ship into Goffs this Friday and we’ll be on sight to buy and sell. We’re very excited to meet and talk to breeders about their Far Above foals with a great selection by the exciting FSS in the sale. Don’t forget that we will be taking over the Thoroughbred Tales Twitter account for the week so tune in for some good content.

Thank you.
