The Sunday Syndicates Post – Vol. 2, Issue 10

All eyes will be on Fairyhouse today at 5:15pm as Nós na Gaoithe lines up in the Listed Mares Bumper. She is on somewhat of a redemption mission after misbehaving in Cheltenham on her last run but it’s safe to say we can put a line through that and look forward to what promises to be an exciting career.

She was an impressive debutant winner at Sligo in August when running very green but still managed to win in the style of a nice prospect. The fire in the belly was lit and she lined up in her first listed race in Navan on the 21st of November where she finished an unlucky 5th after being hampered and lit up by Flemencello coming down directly in front of her. She managed to regain her stride that day and hit the line hard to finish 5th of 12 behind Battling Bessie and Harmonya Maker who both reapose today.

It’s an extremely competitive affair with five alone coming from the Willie Mullins Stable. Patrick has elected to ride Nikini, who was seven and a half lengths behind Pink In The Park in the Grade 2 Mares Bumper at the DRF with Harmonya Maker a further 17l behind her. Nikini met trouble in running that day and clearly the perennial Champion amateur has been happy with how she has been going at home.

Battling Bessie looks to hold the key to this race having been the most consistent mare in the field with the best form in the book. She was only beaten a nose in the Grade 2 at Christmas and before that had run second to Champion Bumper 2nd American Mike.

We’re relishing the challenge for Nós. After all she comes from one of the best staying chasing families in the book so whatever she achieves this year is a bonus. She will be aided in the saddle by the very promising Charlie Mullins and we have 20 very excited owners ready to take Fairyhouse by storm.

3yo’s set for seasonal debuts

We got a brilliant update from Johnny Murtagh over the weekend of our high class, 94 rated, stakes placed Mise le Meas being put through her paces by stable jockey Ben Coen up the Old Vic. She is on target to make her seasonal debut at Gowran Park on Thursday where she won over course and distance as a 2yo. Her year is firmly geared toward Royal Ascot so we’re very excited to get her started.

Golden Mayflower was simply electric on her one and only racecourse visit and whilst she may not be as decorated as her Irish counterpart one has a sneaky suspicion that she might be just as good if not a shade better. She looks in impeccable shape with Amy Murphy who really sets the standard on owner communication. Again, like Mise, her early part of the season will be geared toward Royal Ascot with something like the Ribblesdale Stakes coming onto our radar (we can all dream). She has been given an entry in both the G3 German Guineas Trial and the G2 German 1000 Guineas to give us as many options as possible. She will hopefully get her season started off by attempting to win a second £20k GBB Bonus in the next couple of weeks.

Safe to say our flat owners have kept warm over the winter months dreaming about the journey that these two fillies could take us on in 2022.

Grangee on track for G1 Glory

I’ve been fortunate enough to be associated with horses my entire life. I’ve worked in racing for the last 15 years in which time I’ve been around some very good horses and had some very good days on the track. However, the feeling I got shouting Grangee home to finish 3rd in front of a packed Cheltenham Grandstand is like nothing I’ve felt before. To walk back into the parade ring and see 45 grown men almost reduced to tears was something magical and I’d hate to think what would’ve happened if she had’ve won!

Grangee has been given an entry in the Grade 1 Mares Novice Hurdle at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival on April 17th. All of the principles from Cheltenham are entered, with Love Envoi the only one that I’d have a slight concern about taking on again at level weights. If you read my comments on these pages before we always held Grangee up as No. 1 of the WPM Mares and hopefully he does now too. We had 45 owners at Cheltenham. I’d say we’ll have close to 100 at Fairyhouse even though there’s only 54 in the syndicate!

Stores fit and well

Cheltenham is over so automatically we start thinking about what our team for next year will look like. Grangee, all going well, will head back for the G1 Mares Hurdle, Nós na Gaoithe may progress into a Mares Novice or County Hurdle contender whilst Cabaret King and our Westerner filly may stake a claim for the Champion Bumper.

Sonny is very happy with both and they may take a trip to the Curragh next week before hopefully getting into Closutton around Puncherstown. Our last two store purchases (Grangee & Nós na Gaoithe) both made winning debuts for WPM before competing solely in blacktype races (except Grangee’s maiden hurdle) so we’re eager to keep that record up and we think we can with these two exciting prospects.

Even better news is a very tiny amount of shares have become available in both horses which will not last for very long so I’d advise jumping on the hype train before it leaves the station as when it rolls out it won’t stop until Cheltenham 2023!

First two naming World Cups complete

We got the first two naming World Cups under our belts and we had good craic along the way. Kodi Bear ex. Cucuma was christened CucumBear by Will Threfall. She’s pleased in her early work for Dave Loughnane who has two Guineas hopes this year and has hit the ground running in 2022. We were delighted to see how much CucumBear has progressed physically with the below update from Dave this week. She’s been one of our most popular new recruits this year and shares are limited but available here.

The second of our naming World Cups was for our Fast Company ex. Tarasila filly who is reported as “tough, hardy and talented” by her Classic winning trainer Johnny Murtagh. She was named Fast Tara this week by joint winners David Keogh, John Corkery, Donagh Waters and Tiarnán O’Kelly. Shares also available in her here.

Jessie off to a flyer

There have been two 2yo races run this year in Ireland and Jessica Harrington has won both with two well bred fillies. Luckily we chose to send her our first horse this year and possibly one of her most choicely bred 2yos. Our Le Havre filly has been impressing in her early work and Jessie has stated that a late May / early June debut may be on the cards which gives us plenty of time to don the top hats for Royal Ascot! You can get involved in her here and I’ll give you early warning since Jessie won her second 2yo race of the year on Friday shares have absolutely flown out the door on this filly so be quick.

Thank you.

As always thank you for reading. We’re buoyed by the continued success of our National Hunt string and the promise that our flat ladies are showing. We’re hoping for a big season and hope that you’ll join us so make sure to get in touch if there is anything that we can do for you. john@syndicates.racing always happy to help.
