Who is she?
An athletic daughter of Derby winning Harzand that could be as at home in the Olympics as Willie Mullins stable. Her stable name is Hannah.
Why her?
Harzand is having a moment and we’ve been paying attention. He has quickly become one of the hottest properties at the jumps sales. It’s easy to see why – his runners are catching fire on the racecourse. Just think of Caught U Looking for Noel Meade running so well in the Oaks or Gaoth Chuil winning at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival for Ted Walsh (she ran second at the Dublin Racing Festival too). We make a list of stallions we want as we only buy proven stallions and we had Harzand right at the very top of it before the Goffs Arkle Sale. His oldest crop is are only 6 by the way – barely old to make a scratch of impact over jumps yet.
The team at Baroda Stud, her breeders, are good pals of ours. Many of them are Syndicates.Racing owners already. They cornered us at Goffs and said “we’ve finally got the filly for you” and if we bought her they said they would jump in to buy shares straight away. It didn’t stop there – one of their best judges Noel McDonnell told us she glides around the lunge, a top indicator for talent.
Nimbleness runs in the family, her half-brother the year before was bought by M V Magnier for €85,000. We loved that she had a good filly in her second dam in Gypsy Island and loved her even more when we nabbed her for just €20,0000 compared to her brother. She’s exactly the profile we love – proven sire, great breeders, value price and a world of options – you might detect it but we’re very excited.
What’s our plan?
We loved the athleticism of this filly. We sometimes say if you saw Usain Bolt walking down the street, you’d know he’s fast. It’s the same for this filly – she’s all action and swagger. Willie will be taking dead aim at a bumper with her and from there we’d love to see her mould into the type for some of the biggest festival in our sport.
